Des Moines Dog Bite & Attack Legal Help

There are millions of dog bites in the United States every year. Many dogs are very strong, and their canine teeth are designed to rip through flesh. Children are especially at risk from dog attacks because of their size. When a dog attacks a child, the face, neck and head are frequently targeted.

Iowa Dog Bite and Attack Law

Iowa has what is known as a strict liability statute. If a dog bites you or your child or your own dog, you are entitled to compensation from the dog owner so long as you were not engaged in some type of illegal activity which caused the dog to attack you. You are entitled to compensation regardless of whether the dog was in its own yard, was on a leash, had ever bitten anyone before, and regardless of whether the owner had reason to know the dog might bite.

Dog bites can cause scarring and disfigurement which requires plastic surgery or stitches. The treatments can sometimes be more painful than the bite itself. Later surgeries may be necessary to repair the formation of scar tissue. A dog bite can be a traumatic ordeal, and some people, especially children, may develop a fear of dogs that lasts a lifetime. Depression and emotional distress may result from how appearance is affected or how a person believes their appearance is affected.

I approach every case with the intent to get the best results for my clients. If you or a loved one has been injured by a dog attack, please feel free to call or email me. Consultations are free, there is no charge unless I recover money for you. 515.223.9000
